How does The Hutch Cover work?
The Day Dry Wind & Rain Hutch Cover works the same way as an outer sheet on a tent, repelling water and allowing it to run off onto the ground.
An outer sheet on a tent has a fixed amount of space between itself and the inner sheet. This is not possible on a hutch so the material used is light enough to allow wind to blow air between the hutch and cover helping keep both the hutch and dry.
If after a heavy downpour of rain the cover and the hutch has can be soaked through as the rainwater can build up and start to pool on the roof. It is advised that the cover be removed from the hutch and hang out on a clothesline to dry out. Once the hutch and cover have dried out then you can place the cover back on the hutch.
Why are your covers not 100% waterproof?
We have used a number of materials for covers and found that a water-resistant breathable material is best. The wood that the hutches are made from and your pets create warm, damp air. This needs to escape. A 100% waterproof material is not breathable and therefore will trap warm air and start to create a damp environment.
