What are those white marks on my hutch? Are they dangerous? And how do I get rid of them?

There are a few different answers to those questions.

What Causes White Marks?

Two things.

First, it could be urine.

Rabbits’ urine contains calcium. When the urine dries, the white deposits remain.

It could also be mould.

Possibly.

Urine stains aren’t dangerous in and by themselves. However, the smell of urine attracts flies, which could leave your pet in danger of flystrike.

Mould, on the other hand, can have serious health consequences, both for you and for your rabbits.

You can remove urine stains by scrubbing them with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water.

Also, consider litter training your rabbit.

And if your bunnies aren’t neutered, it’s already past time.

Place your hutch clear of drains, gutters, trees, and other places where water gathers
Weatherproof your hutch and use a rain cover
Remove wet bedding and soiled litter daily
Change water bottles and food dishes daily, and keep them in good repair
