Is it possible to place the single hutch on top of the double one?

Yes, but you will need some DIY skills.

Although they will be able to take the weight, the roofs are angled and will need a wedge to compensate for the hutch to safely stand level.

We would also recommend that you should fix the hutches together somehow, this would remove the chance of knocking a hutch and it falling off of the one below.
